WELLBEING

The Tarwin Sharks Football Netball Club wellbeing program is a key initiative focused on supporting the mental health and overall wellbeing of its players, members, and wider community. Led by Pete Houston and Jackie Kent, the program builds on the club’s strong history of community care by organising workshops throughout the year that promote awareness, resilience, and open conversations around mental health. It also provides guidance and recommendations for accessing professional mental health services, ensuring individuals know where to turn for support when needed. Through actively seeking funding opportunities, the program offers opportunities to the club and local community to undertake Mental Health First Aid training, equipping them with the skills and confidence to support others. Together, these initiatives reflect the club’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment both on and off the field.

Pete is our head of wellbeing and puts in a mountain of work behind the scenes gaining funding for our program. Pete is constantly working with both netball and football to encourage open conversations, understanding and awareness around mental health and wellbeing. He is our football point of contact for players struggling through injury or adversity within their lives. Pete provides our entire club and supporters with advice and recommendations on where to seek help. Pete is worth his weight in gold and his work involves running workshops throughout the year, assisting coaches with team bonding exercises, establishing club values and helping with the formation of new policies. Pete is worth his weight in gold and without him our club is not the same.

Jackie is a social worker and our netball wellbeing officer who plays an incredible role in providing support to our netballers and women in within our club. Whether it be support throughout player injury rehab, recommendations on where to receive help or to provide support to our coaches and volunteers. Jackie plays a massive role for us in the wellbeing space.
